I found another review of the Golden's inaugural voyage. It was not very good. I am really starting to worry about booking my cruise on the Golden. Will it get better with time. I hope so.

Sometimes I think it is a matter of seeing the cup half empty or half full. Following is an email I received from someone who was also on the inaugural cruise. Does not sound so bad from her perspective. I am going to think positive and expect to love our cruise on the Golden.-------------Hope you love yours too!

lower rate of exchange. Also 3% surcharge in Casino for any charges to
shipboard acct.
when a ship is new you have to expect some glitches. when are you going on the golden. I will be sailing in march 2002 so hopefully they will all be ironed out by then! ha

My husband and I are booked on the first cruise in the caribbean on Oct 13, this year. I hope that by then everything will be settled down and running smooth. It is funny how so many people can see things differently.

As you know, we are also on your sailing. I am not concerned one bit. My parents are avid Princess cruisers and I have no doubt the kinks will be worked out before our cruise. Also, I truly believe there is a lot to be said for attitude. We sailed the Radiance of the Seas on a five day cruise to nowhere. Worst service we had ever experienced but we took it with a grain of salt and found a lot to enjoy aboard that beautiful ship. Unfortunately, many people did nothing but grumble and were so shamefully rude to the staff. It seems ships always have initial problems. As long as I am not treated rudely and people work hard to remedy situations, I don't get worked up. Nevertheless, don't worry, I am sure all will be fine with our sailing!
Actually, maiden voyages are usually the worst cruises. Mainly because the crew doesn't know the ship very well at first. I never sail them. Let a ship get a little age on them and they are normally much better. Princess is an excellent cruiseline and they will get it together ASAP.

We will be on the Golden next April . We just returned from the Sun Panama reposition cruise. Our head waiter "Franchesco" told us he was being transfered to the Golden in October. Should you be luck to have him as you head waiter, you will be getting the the "best" I think they are sending their more experienced folks to do the American tour. If you see him say Kevin & Joan from the Sun & Dawn Princess say hi!

We had him on the Dawn Princess for the Southern Carib. trip. This we bumped into him on the Sun Princess. What is cool about it, is we will seek him out on the Golden next April. Maybe all the Italian "head waiters" are named Franchesco. And all the matire d'(spelling) are named Bruno???
I was on the first voyage of Golden Princess...I would say the only thing they need to improve is the Lido area food. Seems they have slipped a bit...Eggs in the Am are not up to par....Coffee is as bad as ever. I bring my own Coffee on all cruises.
I did personal Choice...I asked for the same waiter each night and went in early each night so I did not have a wait. We had different tablemates each night.
Entertainment was Very good!! John Davidson was the lead act. He had 2 shows and 1 meeting with pax where you could ask questions and have a photo taken with him. Crew was very friendly they seemed to know there way around the ship.
Ship is STUNNING!! Tours were some of the best I have ever been on. I did all ship tours. So I dont know why people are saying bad things about this ship. Yes some things could be better..eggs, Coffee. Thats all I could find that need improvement.
