Default where to stay before cruise?

hey cruisers!
my wife and i will be sailing aboard the grand princess this fall, and as a rule, we fly down to florida a few days before the cruise to "decompress". we have narrowed our pre-cruise hotel choice to either the marina marriot or embassy suites in ft. lauderdale.has anyone stayed at these motels, and for near $100 a night, which is the best value.

Well... both are fine properties. Neither one is a "motel". If you can get the Mariott at that rate, grab it. The Amerisuites/Embassy Suites are both fine properties. All are on or near 17th Street Causeway, great area... and around the corner from the Port. And, of course, Princess sails from pier 2, just steps away.

You may also want to try the new Renaissance hotel---I just made a reservation for 12/26 and we are paying less for the concierge/club level at the Ren, than a regular room at the Embassy Suites or Marriott. It is apparently very close to the ships---less than 5 minutes---and has all of the amenities.

John the Marriot Marina is closer to the port (and the new Ren. may be right on the corner near the road to the pier, as a hotel was under construction in March with no name on it). If you can get the Marina for $100 on that holiday week, I would grab it! Embassy is down the street about 4 blocks from the pier. Embassy provide airport & pier tranportation as well as breakfast, too. You may have to take a taxi from Marriott even though it is closer it is too long of a walk with luggage.
Bon Voyage

linda,
i got my info from the "greater fort lauderdale lodging and hospitality association" website, which i believe can be reached at www.ftllodging.com.
this website showed all the hotels surrounding the cruise port, and gave links to check on rates and reservations.
enjoy your cruise.

I booked the Marriott Matina on my own. It is much closer to the pier, and it has a waterfrot view of the ships . If you book on your own it is cheaper then booking throuh Princess.

FYI - we booked the Renaissance for a precruise stay 2 days before our cruise. It was cheaper to go through the cruiseline then the hotel. Not sure why.

I would be surprised if you could get Embassy Suites for under $100/night.
