We have the mini suites on the Grand on hold for the 12/16 cruise. I am faced with a slight problem! There are 11 of us, 2 eighteen year old girls, 1 twenty-four year old girl, 4 of us in our mid 40's to low 50's and 4 in their 70's. Personally, I really like what I have seen and read about Princess. However, with the age spread, is this the ship for us? We were considering the Voyager, but the older folks think it is too big! Of course, the kids loved the idea of the Voyager! Guess I am not going to win this one and have everyione happy! Maybe next cruise will just be my husband and myself, won't be many complaints then! Thanks for any help in guiding me!
For whatever it's worth, we have been on both the Grand and the Voyager. The 40's and above will defintely enjoy both. It's a hard choice. There's two things you may wish to consider - the ice skating arena on the Voyager is great and all will enjoy that. The ice shows and the use of the facility for other functions is wonderful. The disco on the Grand, is HANDS DOWN much, much better than the Voyager (certainly, this is just our opinion) so for the younger folks (and by the way, we're in our late 40's and we still really enjoy the nightlife too) - we thought the Grand was better. The disco has a glass covered moving sidewalk (sky walk) up to it, which lends a special "flair to it" to say the least.
Also, on the Voyager - we really enjoyed Johnny Rocket's (those 18 year olds will too) because we (unfortunatley) had early dining (and we prefer late) - so several nights we skipped dinner and just went there to eat. Of course on the Grand, they have 24 hour dining - so eating is defintely not a problem.
We have never cruised in December so I really don't know what the age group would be on board for your time of year. We cruise quite a bit on several cruise lines, and Princess and Royal Caribbean are our favorite lines, so choosing between the two is difficult.
Hubby is turning 50 in a couple of weeks and instead of having a big party for that he has requested a cruise this fall so we are presently considering the "Golden" on the November 10th sailing.
This message has probably only confused you, but whether you choose RCCL or Princess - you are sure to have a great time. When we're on a cruise ship - we always say (about a dozen times) - it just doesn't get any better than this!!!!!
