We have just been upgraded from an AD mini-suite (emerald - aft) to an AB mini (dolphin - center). Can anyone confirm or correct me on this: the mini-suite balconies on the emerald are covered while the ones on the dolphin are viewable from above, correct?
If so, this doesn't sound like much of an upgrade other than that it's located more toward the center of the ship - any other benefits (bigger balconies, etc.)? (not that it's a big deal, but i certainly wouldn't want to startle anyone if i were to forgetfully go out on the balcony in my skivies ;-)
My girlfriend tends to get seasick, so wouldn't the center location be better than the aft?
We'll be going on Golden later in the year, so I can see first hand about the balcony situation, sorry can't help there. As for being more mid ship if you tend to get seasick, thats true, a little less movement near the center, so that could be a plus. Hope you enjoy your Grand Cruise, when do you cruise?
When we were on the Grand last Nov., we were on the Caribe deck and we could see the dolphin deck balconies below, but only half of it. But I'm not sure about the mini-suites section. I would guess entire deck plan would be roughly the same? Just letting you know what I saw.
BTW, we are on the Dawn in 03 and are hoping for a mini-suite, would be our first one of those!!!
Personally, I like the "AD" much better as you have privacy and are protected by the elements if it rains. If your girlfriend takes Bonine she should be fine. Some of the "AD" balconies are larger than others.
There are other concerns with the AD. It is directly above the Vista Lounge and there could be some (minimal) sounds. Secondly, seasickness could be an issue, better off near midship. In addition, I'm told the AD balconies are slightly smaller, although that is insignificant as far as I am concerned. I alway book an AD guarantee and get upgraded. Last time to an AC and in December it will be an AB. Keep the AB ......
