Default customs and immigration

What papers will we need to fill out for customs before and after the cruise, and when do we do it?

I've read we should take copies of our birth certificates and driver's licenses. Why is this?

Do we have to show our papers (other than cruise card) at each port?

Thanks for answering silly first-timer questions! :-)

Actually copies of your ID wont do. You'll need birth certificates with the raised seal, as well as driver's license.
These are for identification purposes! Security is very tight now, and where before in ports of call you just needed your ships ID card to get back on, now you'll require photo ID as well.

Thank you Kuki. I know we need the originals to get on board and so on. Someone on one of these boards had recommended bringing copies as well and leaving the originals on the ship and just bringing copies off ship. Have you heard of this? I can't imagine it. I would assume you need to show originals each time on and off the ship. Being my first cruise, however, I certainly know very little.

Thanks again!

Being that this is Princess, they do have photo id imbedded on your cruise card - after checking in and receiving your "sign and sail card" you will be stopped on the gangway and someone will take your card and put it in a machine and then take a photo of you. Your photo is then imbedded digitally on this card and you have to put the card in a machine whenever you get on or off the ship. This allows the security crew manning the entrances/exits that the person carrying the card is actually the person who the card belongs to. It is very convenient!
