My parents sail her in Europe every summer and swear by it. They are veteran cruisers with many Holland America and Princess cruises under there belt. They enjoy the size of the ship (not too big) and said the food and staff have always been excellent.(the ship is a Princess favorite for many Brits) My dad was impressed the maintance aboard the ship as she is no way the newest lady of the the fleet, but has been updated and continually well kept. All cabins on this ship are outside...you just don't see that very often. According to my folks, this as an excellent ship for a longer cruise...........enjoy.......

Don't worry about the age of the Royal (Launched in1984, I believe). We sailed on the Royal for the British Isles itinerary this August and found the Royal to be "just-right sized". Service, food, and attitude if the crew and staff were first-rate and we thoroughly enjoyed the ship. They even have full-sized tubs for pete's sake. You don't see that every day. We would (and will) cruise again on the Royal. She offers wonderful itineraries.
We have sailed on the Dawn, Sun, Grand, and Crown and the Royal is our second favorite ship after the Dawn.

Take care and enjoy,
Bop
