Just wondering why it seems so hard to find an up to date cruise report from someone who's recently returned from their Princess Dawn Cruise? The last one I've seen posted is from March 2001.
Hoping someone can point me to other sites for trip reports on Southern Caribbean ports of call?
I sailed on the Dawn Princess on January 12, 2002. What in particular are you interested in knowing? I don't usually write reviews of Caribbean sailings anymore.
Hi and thanks for responding.
I guess with my first cruise in countdown mode (we go February 23)!!! I'm just excited and am
reading anything and everything i can find.
If you're a Cruise A Holic than you must remember the initial excitement of your very first cruise and
all the questions and impressions and sights and sounds etc. you felt.
We (my two sisters and my mother and I ) are travelling alone without husbands for the first time.
We all enjoy each other's company and will have a riot despite the cruise and gorgeous southern
caribbean islands...but i guess i'm just looking for your impressions of the ship, the entertainment,
have you experienced the Personal Choice Dining option, any special things to see or buy on the
islands?
Any information you would like to share is appreciated.
Thanks
karen
I have sailed on all 4 of the Sun Class ships (Sun Princess 2 times; Sea Princess 2 times, Ocean Princess, 1 time; Dawn Princess 3 times).
I was on the Dawn, as I said, on the January 12, 2002 sailing. She is in immaculate shape, the staff and crew were friendly and attentive. Food was excellend.
We were mistakenly signed up for Personal Choice, which we participated in the first night. Menu's were the same, but we preferred to have a regular table, etc. Of course, you can make reservations for a particular time, table, waiter each night with Personal Choice.
Did not go to the shows, although the people I was travelling with enjoyed them immensely (I've seen them all).
Make sure you make reservations for the steak house one evening, absolutely fantastic.
As for the ports, don't try to do too much. I had been to all the ports before, except for St. Kitts.
In St. Kitts, we took a tour to Nevis which we enjoyed very much. You got to see St. Kitts from the water, but had time when the tour was over to go into town. Nevis is very unspoiled and we enjoyed it very much.
In St. Lucia, we took the catamarin tour to the Pitons, which was great.
If you have never been to the islands before, I would suggest a general island tour, gives you a flavor of things. Most of them are only several hours and give you time to explore on your own if you wish.
We leave Mar 17 on the Dawn. I too am looking for any info I can find. Make sure you go in and check your reservations as I got stuck with Personal Choice Dining (mistakenly). I dont think I will like it. Our travel companions are on early seating, as we all requested. Anyone got an opinion..... Thanks. much.
When you check in, find out when the dining room staff are meeting with passengers to change their seating reservations. We had personal choice the first night, having already requested, on board to change it. Our change came the next day.
I've found expedia.com site to have a lot of useful info. Look up the cruise you are taking, then click on detail (itinerary & ship). On the right column at the top is a ship review, including age, size, specifics. Also ship reviews from passengers, I think. I always check out the ship stats before considering a cruise.
