Default Shore excursion-Skagway

I'll be cruising on the Star Princess In Sept. and was wandering if anyone has taken the combo excursion: Skagway White Rail Pass and the VIP motorcoach tour lasting 8 hrs. I was wandering the the motorcoach part is worth it, since it adds on 5 hours and takes you up close to the waterfalls etc.? Thanks for any and all advice in advance...Daniel-Malibu,CA

I have done the railway, but not the bus trip. To me 8 hours for this trip seems way too long. The train is long enough.

Hi Dan,
I have to agree with David, we're signed up for just the train ride, I think 3-1/2 hours should be long enough, can't see an 8 hour excursion, but it may be something you'd like, think its a personal thing. Also I want to have enough time to stroll around town and see what thats like, so we should have plenty of time for that too.

What ship will you be on in Sept.?

We took the train/bus ride. We really didn't think either part was that great. The scenery was pretty, but not spectacular. On the return we stopped at a mining camp that was a lot like Knotts Berry Farm. We were not impressed and it was a very long day.

Our friends took the plane ride to the glacier that day. They were thrilled with their tour which included some boating, etc.

We took the train ride to the summit and back - you can see parts of the gold rush trail that you can't see from the road. Would have liked to taken the bus extension, but you needed to have your passports in hand, which we forgot.
