Default Bringing liquor on board

After reading posts on here they said, wine is okay to bring on board and not liquor. Is it possible to sneak a bottle of liquor on board? Is there a way they'll find out?

We brought all our liquor on board in our suit cases when we embarked. set up our bar right on the counter. No trouble from anyone. More difficult to bring it back from ports.

We brought our liquor on ship in a carry on. We put our booze in water bottles and when they went through screening they passed as water bottles.
