Were considering going on the Star Princess for March 22. Does anyone know if that is a big school vacation time? We heard about kids running wild on the ship on a previous holiday cruise. Also, pros and cons would be appreciated. Have been on Celebrity 5 times and loved it. Thanks
Hi RUCruisin2,
Yes, that time of year is big spring break time, but Princess does limit the number of kids per sailing, so I don't think thats a major problem. I've cruised a few times with my kids over spring break and have never had any problems.
I am going on the Star on the March 29th cruise. My wife is a teacher at San Diego City schools. Regular classes are off for vacation on April 14th. Year round schools start March 29. Los Angeles traditional schools get off April 14th. You probably need to worry mnore about college spring break times. But most students prefer Carnival cruises. There are some very good prices out now on the Star.
Our TA did some research for us and found out the ship has closed bookings for 13-16 yr olds. Therefore.... we decided to vacation in Santa Monica and cruise at another time. No offense to you folks with kids, been there, done that, just don't want to do it again.
The Star’s capacity is about 2600
The max infants allowed onboard is 10
Teens 175
Kids 200
Soooo…the maximum amount of kids you could possibly have is 385 compared to 2,215 adults PLUS cruise staff.
The ship is 109,000 tons and HUGE. Princess has programs to keep the kids busy and if there was ever an absolute “problem child” who did something really bad – the family can be asked to leave the ship.
I live in the LA area and Santa Monica is not as impressive as it sounds.

jayfoxfire, Thanks, I couldn't help myself. That is great info you sent where did you get it? I have seen the question about limiting kids on a number of boards but nobody ever had this type of detail. Oh by the way I have one of those 175 teens going with me on the Star 4/5.
