MECLIZINE / ANTIVENT IS A GREAT DRUG THAT DOES NOT CAUSE DRY MOUTH OR MAKE MOST PEOPLE SLEEPY. YOU CAN GET IT OVER THE COUNTER AT MOST SAVON DRUGS AT THE RX COUNTER USUALLY RUNS 100 PILLS FOR $ 4.00
HOPE THIS HELPS.
the main over the counter drugs are Draminine and Bonine. Bonine is better it doesn't make you sleepy like Draminine does. The patches and wristbands work very well with fewer side effects.
Try ginger capsules. Ginger has no side effects, is a natural motion sickness option and works very well. I would suggest taking it 1 hour before you board and just keep taking it as directed.
I've used wrist bands, bonine, and ginger and prefer ginger. If you are on any kind of blood thinners, ginger is a bad choice. Check with your doctor before using it. We take a small jar of candied ginger (more fun than the pills)-you can find it in the seasoning section of your supermarket. I keep a supply in a zip lock and nibble on it whenever my stomach starts warning me...I've used it on the Gulf of Alaska and on whale watching trips and it worked great. A small jar seems to last forever!!
On my first cruise, I used the patch and it made me so dizzy and also affected my vision. I would never use it again. On the second cruise I used the Sea Band wrist bands. They kind of helped, but for me..they were a little unconfortable because they were tight on my wrists. I ended up using the Meclazine and had no trouble whatsoever with it. Good luck and have a great time.
