Default Hidden Costs

I was just reading on the "First Time Cruisers" on this site and it was telling about all of the hidden charges on various ships, but the Princess line was not mentioned.

Does anyone know if Princess has a Rock Climbing wall - if so how much? Does it have a mini golf or putting range - how much?

How much are the following:

Ice Cream / Soda / Juice / Snacks - outside of the dinning rooms? I understand you can get a Soda Card, I've been hearing different prices ranging from $15 to $30. I've also been hearing that if you drink soda, but not alot, just drink it in the dinning rooms where it is free. Are all drinks (except for alcohol) in the dinning rooms free?

Any other "hidden charges" I need to be aware of?

Oh yeah, another question:

Casinos - are there any nickel slots?
Renewing your wedding vows - how much?

The only thing I think they have is a golf simulator that they charge for. Of course spa treatments cost plenty.

We didn't like the soda card as it only covers fountain drinks and did not include the variety that is in cans. Last I recall, they charged $1.50 in or out of the dining rooms plus an automatic 15% gratuity. Coffee, tea, milk, etc., are free in the dining rooms but not soda. Haggen Daz ice cream purchased on deck near the pool is extra but why buy it when just as good ice cream is available with meals for free. Snacks are always available on the Lido deck or from room service for free, except one should tip the person delivering the free stuff. Anything delivered to your room that has a cost, like sodas or liquor, would automatically have a gratuity imposed.

I don't recall Princess has any nickel slots.

That's something I can't tell you. My wife and I have a standing routine about this. I won't renew them unless she renews the exact same ones we had when we married. Seeing that was 40 years ago, she's not agreeable to the "obey" part which she never honored anyway. (G) Anyway, it keeps me from having to go through that stuff. (BG)

Dawn Princess has about 6 or 7 nickel slots.

I've been hearing 2 different stories to this. Do you have to pay for sodas while eating dinner IN the dinning room?

If you do not have a soda card, then you DO have to pay for sodas in the dining rooms.

I always bring my own soda. I stop before getting on the ship and purchase 2 six packs of 16 oz or 20 oz diet coke ( that's what I drink) and one 32 ouncer. All I need for the entire cruise. I also bring a small fold up cooler.

Seems silly. Spend all the money on a cruise and I won't pay $22 for a soda card-you can't use the card every where. I like having the convenience of having it in my room and can bring the cooler out on deck if it is a hot day. Works for me.

I have been on 7 Princess cruises in the past 3 years and have NEVER paid for soda in the dining room and that is all I ever drink. Maybe there is technically a charge for it, but they just don't often enforce it. I know this is how corkage works. While I have never seen a corkage charge for anyone at our tables, I know they reserve the right to charge it, and I know others who HAVE been charged corkage on Princess.

Well I've been on as many Princess cruises and every single one of them charged for soda in the dining room. I don't know how you got away without it unless you had a soda card. They take your cruise card when they take your order.

Frank is right. The soda card can be used anywhere on the ship except for room service. You have to show it in the dining room. I buy the soda card all the time because that is all I drink except water and coffee and the ass't waiter or waitress takes my card each time . The card also can not be used at Princess Cays because they don't have fountain soda there.

Well, I don't know about other activities, but we did purchase the vow renewal package for 149. There is a delux package for around 350 which includes a visit to the bridge, 2 bath robes, and canapes in your room every night , along with the champagne and the photo. Most activities on the ship are free, its the tours off the ship that can get expensive. We're not the touring type, and like to strike off on our own.
