Is it expensive for Internet access on the ship?

Wondering how much it costs to use the Internet on the ship.

Hi Lauram,
You can expect to pay around $.75 per minute onboard. Some ships off the whole week with hook-up in your cabin if you bring your own laptop, that way seems more reasonable. There are also intert cafe's in most major ports for a lot less, usually $5.00 for 45 minutes with a DSL line.

I was just on the Star Princess and they lowered the rates to 35 cents.

I just got off the Grand and it was 7.50 per 15 minutes. I used it once for 30 minutes to check email and found it convenient but expensive.

I agree that the access I've always had was very fast. I use it to check email and keep in touch with home. But, I don't have to pay for it anymore!!!!!

Platinum memeber get free Internet.

From Princess:
Platinum members can look forward to a host of additional benefits, including free Internet access on board, a special lounge at disembarkation, and a free upgrade to Travel Care Gold when purchasing Princess' standard insurance coverage.

Frank:
I'm a Platinum member too and that is the only benefit that I think is worth something.

On the Coral the charge is 50 cents per minute with a minimum of 15 minutes. In Cozumel it was 15 cents per minute - in Limon it was $1 for an hour or less.

Ouch, $7.50 a pop. That sounds like a lot. I'm glad I'm platinum but I hope my friends don't bug me to use my account on board. (NG)

Just returned from the Golden last week. The rate, as stated above, is $.50/minute and $1.00/page to print. Thank goodness I'm a Platinum Member since the Internet connection was excruciatingly slow and very expensive. Dealing with unfamiliar browser format also slowed the process as well. If you are Platinum Member, the service is free. They charge your onboard account then credit the same amount back each day. Be sure to verify the credits were issued at the end of your cruise.

There is one pretty cool feature. With a click of a button, you can email a photo of yourself to your friends using the desk Webcam. You are suppose to be able to access your own POP email server although I didn't try to figure it out. You can quickly access the Web based email accounts, such as Hotmail and Yahoomail, with a click on special links. I would suggest emailing yourself a text list of the email addresses you plan to use. It will be quicker to copy and paste than trying to type them in.
