Yes, but you can do that at home. I would think the reason to go there would be to do something unique to the tropical island that Cozumel is. Probably something to do with the warm water and/or beach.
Thanks for responding. This is sort of a compromise on my part. We will be snorkling in the cays and Grand Cayman, however, my wife isn't really very interested in that. She would rather shop and spend some time just exploring.
Depending on which pier you dock you are either right in town or a mile outside town.
At the pier outside town there are many shops right there. Taxi to town is just a few dollars (about $4). In town there are many shops , bars and restaurants.
On my April 3 Coral cruise we docked at Porto Maya outside of town ... and all the biggies (stores) are located right there plus Los Cinco Soles with their Pancho's Backyard for lunch ... and Columbian Emeralds, etc. I enjoyed it for a change of pace from being right in town.
I cruise the Emerald Princess, Eastern Caribbean on April 16, 2012
may i make a suggestion?? The snorkeling in Cozumel is Far Superior to that of the Cays and Caymen. The thing to shop for in Cozumel is loose gemstones, and touristy stuff, not the greatest shopping port -imho- tour the ruins at Tulum or spend the day relaxing at Channunkaab National Park - dolphin swim, snorkel, touristy shops, nice beach- makes for a very relaxing day.
Just came from Cozumel on the Grand April 20th . Found the park mentioned above(can't spell it) was absoulutly magnificent. $10.00 each to enter.
Took a cab there for about $7.00. The scenery is amazing. There is snorkeling or just hanging out by the beach. Spent about 4 hours there then did some shopping.
