Princess Excursions
Anyone ever gone on a Princess excursion? We have 50 dollars credit and we are considering applying it to a Princess Cruise Grand Cayman tour and stingray swim.
I know one always pays more for excursions sponsored by the cruise line. Does anyone feel strongly about Princess excursions one way or another? Good deal - horrible rippoff of somewhere in between? Thank you in advance for your responses!

Re: Princess Excursions
Even though booking tours through the ship are more expensive I feel more comfortable doing it that way. One big reason, if your tour gets late getting back to the ship the ship will not wait for you if you book the tour privately. On the other hand if you booked through the ship and your tour is running late the ship will wait for you. Also, better chance of getting your money back if the tour is cancelled. I don't go on a cruise for more stress worrying if we will get back to the ship on time. We have done Princess tours and have been happy with them. We are booked again for this December on another Princess ship and have our tours booked with them.

The decision is what you feel comfortable with doing.

Re: Princess Excursions
Taking a shore excursion on our last Princess cruise made us decide to avoid the ship's shore excursions.

It took so much extra time to herd a group on & off the bus at every stop, we were rushed at a beautiful botanical garden and a fascinating historical site, but had too much time to see yet another church and their gift shop.

Re: Princess Excursions
We usually do all ou own excursions. we are on the Dawn in three weeks and have booked a full day in St Thomas with Winifred . A full day on their yacht. it's a maximum of six people and is cheaper the Princess. However this year we have booked three trips with Princess. All sports related, just for the guarantee of safety and insurance. we will do averything else ourselves. I would never consider any land trips with the cruise lines. You can do them yourselves for half the price and at your own pace, just team up with someone else on the ship.

The main problem with ships tours for me is that they always allow lots of time to shop in shops they take you to, but never enough time in the places you could really enjoy( like the beach or garden tours)

Re: Princess Excursions
You've seen pro and cons so far. If we are unfamiliar with a location, we book the ship's shore excursions. We just don't want the hassles associated with an unfamiliar location, unfamiliar people, etc. And, as one mentioned, if the tour is late...well, that's not worth a few $ saved.

However, if we are returning to a port we've toured before and have some familiarity, them we might just ignore the tours altogether and just browse around on foot.
