We have just disembarked from Star Princess in Sydney Australia. We had wonderful friendly service. We had 3 small complaints that we did not report.Cereal did not arrive for one of our dining mates at a table for 4 at two breakfasts.Fruit did not arrive on another breakfast.for one.All were in anytime dining.
Afternoon tea which we attended once was badly done in regards to the order in which it was recieved at the table. We attended at 1600hrs.The hours are 1530hrs to 1630hrs.
Breakfast in the dining room on departure morning at 0730hrs was slow and unorganized even though the dining room was not full.
Except for the above it was a wonderful cruise and the service staff were friendly and very helpful and always attentive and eveready to offer more service in nearly all departments of the ship.
Australians usually dont like to tip,(its not in our culture)$10.00 U.S. Per Day would seem a lot to us.At the end of the cruise we thought it was very resonable given the service that we recieved and ended the cruise all happy campers despite our last breakfast.
I suppose the biggest complaint i have would be the arrival time in Sydney is picking up the pilot at approx 0330hrs for arrival at the terminal before 0500 hrs.Its not a complaint on behalf of myself but for others. We are the guardians of one of the worlds most beautiful harbours.Passengers travel from all over the world to enjoy this 12 day cruise.Spending a long time in aircraft.Princess see fit to rob its pax of this once in a liftetime oportunity to see the harbour from a beautiful ship.I noted that a lot of pax were whisked away from Sydney on land based tours and to the airport. They did not see the beautiful harbour.Surely it would not be a big issue for Princess to alter its arrival and departure times of their Sydney Cruises despite it being a end of Cruise day.
Try to remember that often the morning servers are bus boys in training to become dinner servers and it is common for errors to occur at breakfast and or lunch. We all made mistakes when we first learned our trades. If that is your main complaint, it must have been a terrific cruise. I love the Star too and think it is a very well-run ship on the whole.
I appreciated your information as we will be on a 14 day Auckland to Sydney cruise. We'll disembark on Valentines day but since we are spending 3 days post cruise, we should have time to see the harbor. Our last cruise that ended up in Sydney was on Crystal and they entered the harbor at a more reasonable hour affording us a wonderful view, fire boats and all.
You aren't going to see any delay in the ships arriving in port early. They have a big time crunch turning that ship around for the new passengers arriving. It's the same on any ship. Best would be to partake of local harbor cruises.
