Default Dinner embarkation night?? Luggage goes where?

1. I assume most of these ships leave port in the evening. On that first night, do they offer dinner/buffet? Or are we on our own until breakfast the first morning?

2. As the cabins are very small, where does one keep his unpacked luggage? As we have an inside cabin, space at a premium.

Thanks.

B...........

On most ships you can board around 12 noon if departure is 4 to 6 pm. There is a large lunch buffet. At dinner all of the dining rooms and restaurants are open for business.

You did not say what ship you were cruising on however all of the Princess ships have storage either in the closet area or under the beds or a combination of both.

all of the restaurants and dining rooms are open for dinner, its open seating for the first night in the main dining rooms, dress code is casual. You can store your luggage under the bed or in the closet, if you have a huge bag, your room steward will take the empty bag and store it for you.

As I was told emphatically, casual does not mean jeans. Wear something nice enough to be admitted to the dining room in case your luggage doesn't arrive in time. Or you can go to Horizon Court where jeans and shorts are always welcome.

We always pack "dinner" clothes in our carry-on just in case our luggage doesn't arrive before time for dinner, it usually does though.

We depart San Juan at 11pm on the Golden Princess. Will they be serving dinner in any of the dinning rooms or is the first night buffet only?

Hi Gummy,
Yes, there should be dinner served in the dining rooms that evening as well, just check for the correct time, because you will also be having a life boat drill sometime that night as well.

We did not get our luggage until 9 p.m. on the first night on the Golden out of San Juan on 7/4 (TSA inspected our bags). The dining rooms were open and we had our shorts and polos on. The staff was really cool, understood that we did not have our luggage and we ate a nice prime rib dinner the first night. Saw lots of people in their travel clothes that night, too. We dressed appropriately after that for every meal, but I did see a guy in shorts and a t-shirt on the last formal night eating. Nice to have a jacket and tie on and see a scruffy looking guy next to your table chowing down!
