Default Dock or tender in St. Maarten ??

Princess' website says they tender in St. Maarten. RCCL says they dock. On cruisemates, some folks have posted that ships dock and some have posted that they tender. Does anyone know whats really the case? I'm looking at Radiance vs. Caribbean Princess for a handicapped friend of mine so accessibility is an issue and tendering is very difficult.

Thanks for your help!

Good morning zoe-----every time I have stopped in St Maarten on Holland America and Princess we have docked. They have a dock that will handle 2 very large ships ie Voyager class------It may depend on how many ships are in port on the day you are there. We are leaving on the Golden Princess this afternoon and will be in St. Maarten on tuesday, I will let you know if we dock or not-----enjoy your cruise!!!!!!!!!

Hi Zoe,
We were on Radiance last year in St. Maarten and did have to tender. Although it wasn't bad because the tender brought us right into town, where the ships that got to dock, you have a long walk or a water taxi, so really makes no difference if you do have to tender there.

They do have a beautiful newer dock, but it only hold so many ships.

It really depends on how many ships are in port. I just got off the Dawn and we were on the deck. The Sun Princess was in port the same day and had to tender.

Carnival owns the new dock in St. Martin. So I imagine that Carnival & it's affiliates get preference at the dock, and if there is room, they rent spots to other cruise lines.
