Default Immigration

I wondered how ships that sail out of Florida handle immigration. We have always sailed out of San Juan. On the next to the last day of our trip, everyone passenger has to get up early and go to the lounge to show their passport to an immigration officer.
Do you have to do that when sailing from a Florida port?
