What ship? I understand that the newer ships have better room insulation and you would be less likely to hear hall-talk. In my experience, most ships have more than one set of elevators and the traffic flow can make a difference, for example - mid-ship on a deck with a lot of activity could be a bad choice. I'm sure you'll hear from others with more experience, I've never had a room near an elevator because I was concerned with the noise.
I had a mini-suite cabin at the mid-ship elevators twice on the Grand and it was great! I don't think you will have a lot of problem with elevator noise. There might be noise from the people using the elevators...you just never know. We never had a problem.
Thanks for the replies. The ship is the Carribean Princess and, from the looks of the ship diagram, the cabin is right between the elevators and the stairs. It is in the middle of the landing Where the halway ends and the opening for the stairs and elevators are. this is on the Aloha deck. As some of you have said, it seems convenient, but I worry about the noise from people waiting for elevators or using the stairs.
