I don't believe Princess has a policy that prohibits irons in the cabins. If they do, the last three room stewards I've had gave me the wrong answer about it.
WHY would you want to risk a fire on board just from the convenience of ironing in your stateroom? I just called Princess and talked to Terrance, one of their reps. He asked me "why wouldn't they want to use the laundry rooms that are conveniently located on each deck?" - I explained that we wanted to see it in writing and that I really don't want to be on the ship with people who need to see the official word before they'll refrain from irons, candles, etc. I told him that if it isn't in writing, why not put it in writing? I talked to his supervisor, Tisha, and asked the same question. Can you believe it? They've never been asked for this in writing before :o)
She took my name and phone number and is checking in to applying the suggestion of getting these issues in writing on their web site. I'll let you know what I hear!!!
Totally agree about smoking! How many times do you hear about a fire caused by an iron? Yet, how many times do you read/hear about someone starting a fire, buring a house down, and loss of life do to a smoker who forgot to put out his/her butt! Happy Cruising!!
Many irons now have an auto shut-off. I would worry as much if not more about women leaving their curling irons plugged in. How many of those have automatic shut-off?
"why wouldn't they want to use the laundry rooms that are conveniently located on each deck?"
There are lots of reasons, none of which matter if there is no policy about using an iron in a stateroom.
If the steward were to have replied that I could not use my iron, I wouldn't. I wouldn't need to have a notarized statement. I think this a bigger issue on internet discussion boards than in the Corporate offices. I really don't think they see it as an issue, or they would have a policy of some sort.
Here..again:
You may be right, maybe they don't see it as an issue. I guess we'll find out if they don't put out a policy statement.
I truly hope it isn't and doesn't become an issue.
I know that at least one person posted a message that they left their iron on and it burned either their mattress or bedspread (and it seemed that they were bragging about the steward not doing anything about it). Where else could you use an iron than on the mattress? What other appliance would someone take that gets as hot as an iron?
