Default Liquor Store?

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I are flying in from Hawaii to sail on the Diamond Princess 4/17. I'm not real keen about carrying 2-3 bottles of wine from Hawaii to LA then onto the ship(breakage, cost, weight a concern). Does anyone know of a liquor store close to port where we can pickup a couple of bottles of wine?

Thanks all.

Hi
We just sailed on the Diamond. We stayed at the Sheraton in San Pedro where the ship docks. They had a display in the lobby, just to the left before you get to the front desk. You pick the wine from a list, they pack it for you to take on the ship. I doubt if you have to stay there as a guest to buy the wine. I was going to bring my wine with me on the ship, but thought it would be a hassle. A decent glass of chardonnay will cost you $6.50. I will bring my own the next time.

Thanks Joannie!

I'll probably stop by on my way down to the port. Hope you had fun.

Take Care.

From the Sheraton mentioned above or the dock itself , take 1st Street west about 1.5 miles to Western. Turn right (north) on Western and within 1/2 mile you will be in an area with a Vons, a Ralphs and a Sav-On. All three are grocery stores which carry beer/wine/alcohol. If you travel just a bit farther north on Western on the left is a Trader Joes where you will find the best $2 Shiraz, Merlot, Cab, Chardonnay ever: Charles Shaw (or 'two-buck Chuck'). (We took 3 bottles of Shiraz ourselves, imagine 3 bottles for less than a glass on board!) TJ's also has excellent beer and wine as well.

Of course down by the dock you will find many liquor stores...but they are more expensive than the grocery stores found just a couple of miles away. Enjoy!
