Yes the pools are open on Princess 24 hours a day. They do shut some down now and than for cleaning and maintenance but they are back up in a short while. As far as the crowds go I have only sailed on Princess in Alaska so not sure what the crowds are like in the Caribbean in December.
We are booked on the 12/13/04 sailing on the Dawn, and we are 40. It has been our expriance on the 10 and 11 day cruises tend to be and older crowd, but have always found people in our age group to hang with.
you will love the Dawn, beautiful ship, big enough but not huge. Pools & hot tubs are open 24 hrs, and the pools are freshwater not saltwater. You will find a good mix of adults of all ages on your 10 day Caribbean.
just back on from sun princess 10 day eastern, pools were closed by 7 pm,all outside bars were closed by 6:30 pm.i sailed twice on the grand and found the sun to be very poor in service, cleanlyness and very rude staff.
From what I've been reading about the Sun Princess's service, or lack thereof, it sounds like she's a very tired ship with a very tired or inexperienced crew. She was great in 1998. As for the Grand, we heard about her being built while on the Sun, and finally saw her in Ft. Lauderdale when we were down there with our son 2-3 years ago.Compared to the Sun Princess, she was gigantic, and more beautiful. My husband and I cruised on the Golden Princess, first, and I love the ship and would go back on her anytime, anywhere, within our schedule.By the time we got to the Grand in 2002, she had been "seasoned". The furniture showed wear and tear, the coffe pots were broken in the Horizon Buffet, and she wasn't new anymore. As a matter of fact, the crew was painting on her everyday, as if she was due for an inspection. She wasn't as Grand as the Golden, even as the older "sister ship",but she had not been degraded to the point of what is being described on the Sun Princess, and we still had a pleasant time. I've got to think that there was something drastically going on with the Sun to have such bad service. It's really too bad. Lynne
