Default Booked the Diamond for 10/30

Hi all,

I just had to go back! So this week booked the Diamond for the Mexican Riviera. (We did the 2-night pre-inaugural sailing in March).

I splurged this time and got the mini-suite -- the rate was too good (booked an AD guarantee).

Can't wait for those onion rings in the Sterling House restaurant again -- they are to die for.

I added our cruise to the Meet on Board feature here ... hope some other Cruisemate folks will be on board.

Harry

That's great. Mini-suites are the way to go, love that extra room.

Can't wait for the cruise....

I've been concentrating on the Mexico and G/L boards that I moderate for awhile.

We bought a new house and it closes in May, so just trying to position work, cruisemates, and personal in between. Thanks for letting me know I was missed Jeanne. :-)

So happy to have a cruise to look forward to -- and glad we splurged on the mini-suite. The extra space will be great after usually booking a straight balcony.

Harry

Harry, you have been busy I see! You are selling that beautiful house? I wish both you and Art much happiness in the new one. A cruise always is a good thing to look forward to, keeps us more focused. Take care and we'll keep an eye out for you on Chit-Chat.

No, not selling our current home ... just renting it out. (We are on a 15-year loan, so if anything, it will provide some retirement income for us).

The new house is set for the walk-thru May 24th. But goodness the sea of boxes that is growing in the master closet and garage! I'm on my 3rd box of bubble wrap!

Glad to hear you are only renting out that lovely house, good planning on your part. I know what you mean about the boxes, after we had moved 3 times in a few years, I told DH no more! I am retired! <<<<BG>>>> Now we are cruising more instead of moving more. I'll say a prayer that everything goes well for your walk-thru and move and that you get good tenants for your house.

Hi

I am booked on the Diamond for 10/23 would like to know if you have been to the Mexican Riveria before and if so can you give me some suggestion on any excursions that we should take. And any information on the ship itself. Thanks for any information that you can provide.

Did you like the Diamond Princess?

Oh, by the way is that a maltese?

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Yep, little Andy is a Maltese. All 9 pounds of him (the little porker).

We took the 2-night pre-inaugural sailing of the Diamondp, and I fell in love with her. The anytime dining choices of 4 restaurants is just wonderful. The conservatory pool is gorgeous and so nice with its glass dome.

Two nights was just not enough to explore her, so I promised myself I would be back.

I highly recommend checking out the excursion list on the princess site, as well as ordering a copy of Fodors Guide to Mexico. The "walking tour" offered in the book for PV is great.

I have also taken the Marlin Tours city excursion in Mazatlan, which gets you to all the main sites (cathedral, opera house, viewpoints and the Golden Zone) for $15. The tour desk is in the pier terminal.

In Cabo, we have several times taken the glass bottom boat ride out around Los Arcos ($12 per person for 45 mins.) Lots of nice scenery.

Hope that helps ... and surf the net for some other ideas.

Harry

Hi

Thanks for the information. And I thought I would send you a picture of my baby Joey.

He is big for maltese 13lbs.

Harry,
I could not resist either. I originally had a BD category booked for 11/27/04 on Baja deck. I upgraded to E724 for $100 more pp. I specifically booked the AD minisuite because I do not want to be upgraded to the minisuites on Dolphin Deck. I like having my balcony covered.
I had a minisuite on the Grand in Nov/03 and was told that the cabin plus balcony was about 320 sq ft. I have been told that the minisuites on the Diamond are about 350 sq ft. Since the layouts appear to be the same I wonder where the extra square footage is. Maybe in the balcony?

Steve, I noticed that Princess recycles interior photos a lot on the different web sites, etc. www.cruisestateroom.com gives you a 3 D view, but I would hazard to guess you are right -- it varies on balcony size.

In terms of upgrading to mini-suite, it comes back to my one complaint on balcony cabins on Princess -- that stupid barrel chair and no sofa. On Carnival balconies we always had the sofa and same with RCCL, but I am forever moving that chair back and forth to get to the fridge. Also, it's just not that comfortable for lounging.

I am also hoping that with the tub, we might have a bigger shower area. The comedian on board compared our balcony showers to pencil holders, which I thought was too true.

It will be interesting to see what kinda mini we get (since we booked a guarantee) ... that's always a lot of fun.

Happy sailing,

Harry

Harry,
I agree about the recycled pics. Also the bathroom. I was on the Coral Princess last year and even though it is my favorite Princess ship as of right now, the shower stall was the smallest that I have ever had. It even seemed smaller then on the Star Princess. I was in a balcony cabin on both ships.

When I toured the Diamond in Los Angles for the day, I saw a mini-suite and it appeared to be the same layout. Maybe I just did not look close enough. Also viewing a ship and cruising on her are two different things.

FYI, on Holland America "Vista" class ships - Zuiderdam, Oosterdam and Westerdam they have 250 sq ft balcony cabins (200 cabin + 50 balcony) that have full bathtub and separate living area with small sofa.

Whatever the size of the Diamond cabin, I am having a hard time waiting until November to cruise on her.

I know the feeling ... I always say I always feel so much at home on a ship.

And I cannot wait for those onion rings in the Sterling House.

Oh, I just remembered one other small complaint on Princess -- those cheesy shampoo packets. Mush after one shampoo!

Ah, yes, the world is a tough place.

:-)
