from noaa weather.....FOR NEXT WEEK WHEN I'm CRUISING!!!
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
235 PM EDT TUE MAY 18 2004
.DISCUSSION...WESTERN ATLANTIC RIDGE TO TRANSLATE FURTHER SOUTHWARD
THROUGH THE WEEK WHILE WEAKENING. THIS WILL KEEP CONDITIONS MOSTLY
DRY WITH LESS WIND OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. DEEP MOISTURE WILL
REMAIN WELL REMOVED FROM THE REGION...AND WITH NO LARGE SCALE LIFT
PRESENT...EXPECT ONLY ISOLATED SHOWERS...AND POSSIBLY A FEW
THUNDERSTORMS...TO DEVELOP. NOT MUCH ELSE TO DISCUSS NEAR TERM.
EXTENDED MODEL RUNS LOOK RATHER INTERESTING THOUGH. THE GFS HAS NOW
BEEN CONSISTENT...RUN TO RUN...IN DEVELOPING A LOW OVER THE
SOUTHWEST CARIBBEAN BY FRI/SAT AND TRACKING IT NORTHEASTWARD (BUT
WELL EAST OF THE AREA) THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK. IT WOULD BE EASY TO
DISCOUNT ONE MODEL...BUT ALL OF THEM? THERE IS MODEL CONSENSUS
ON...AT LEAST WEAK LOW PRESSURE...SPINNING UP SOMEWHERE IN THE
SOUTHWEST CARIB BASIN BY THIS WEEKEND. UKMET/ECMWF/CANADIAN/NOGAPS
ALL DEPICT THIS. HOWEVER...THIS IS FAR OUT IN TIME...AND WITH ALL
THE UNCERTAINTY...MADE NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE EXTENDED. IT IS
GETTING TO BE THAT TIME OF THE YEAR THOUGH. THE ATLANTIC HURRICANE
SEASON OFFICIALLY STARTS JUNE 1ST...BUT STORMS HAVE FORMED WELL
BEFORE THEN...SUCH AS ANA OF LAST YEAR.
The Ship's Capt. usually has all the reports, too. I think the good ones will try to steer around a storm if possible. We headed into a cloud bank when we were on the Golden to the Eastern and the Capt told us that he'd try to get around it. The seas were a tad choppy and the sky grew overcast but we didn't get into any heavy weather. It really looked ominous leaving Cozumel one time but we got away from it. The Bridge Staff really does a pretty good job at trying to stay out of impending bad weather--IF POSSIBLE. Lynne
We were on the Grandeur out of New Orleans and were not permitted to sail on the Mississippi River because of the dense fog. At sea we encountered a storm (no big deal) I think the Captain will know what to do. Our jobs have a wonderful time and Be Happy, Don't Worry as they say in Jamaica.
Our weather looked pretty bad for my cruise 5/9-5/16, but the weather was mostly fine. Yes, it was a bit cloudy. Yes, there were a few rain showers, but they were short and brief. I actually like the partly cloudy weather for the excursions...they were most comfortable! Cloudy is actually the best weather for non-water activity excursions.
Unless the forecast is for rain all day every day, I wouldn't sweat it!
