Default Pools freshwater or saltwater?

This summer we're going to Eastern Caribbean on the Caribbean Princess. Are the pools filled with freshwater or saltwater? We've heard both.

Princess pools are fresh water - open 24hrs as are the hot tubs.

All pools are fresh water and they stay full and useable even while in port. The only time the pools are drained is for maintenance.

I am curious, why are Princess pools fresh water when most other lines are salt water..I am a very poor swimmer so I would not get into the pools on the ship anyway ?

I'm not sure, but freshwater is probably better to swim in than saltwater... who wants to swim in a POOL that tastes like an ocean?

As far as swimming in the pools, it really doesn't matter whether you use fresh or saltwater. It only matters when you get out and begin to dry. If you don't rinse off really good, the salt will dry on your skin, turn white and dry your skin out and make you itch. Unless you're really short, you don't need to know how to swim. The deepest part of any pool is 5 feet.

i am guessing that the reason Princess chose fresh water was because of customer demand.

It is more expensive to maintain fresh water pools since the water comes from the desalinization plant on board the ship. Most of the pools are 5 feet deep with the exception being Neptune's Reef pool which ranges from 5 to 7 feet on the Grand Class ships.
