We will be sailing on the Dawn Princess in mid December and have taken everyone's advice and plan on arriving one day early. Can anyone recommend a reasonably ($80 - $100) priced hotel in Fort Lauderdale. We are flying in from the west coast. Do most hotels offer airport and cruise ship terminal shuttles? Are we better off just taking a cab? Is it difficult to get transportation to the terminal on cruise day and how far in advance do we need to call a cab if needed.
Thank you cruisers
Start looking early on travel sites ie:"hotels.com". We are staying at the Embassy Suites for $89.00 a night includes free made to order breakfest and cocktail hours (2). They also have a free shuttle to the port. Suites have 2 rooms. You can get 2 double beds and the sofa in the front room pulls out to a queen. Very nice place.
Back again they also offer a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. We are taking a cab when we get back to port. I have heard they will be all over the port and the cost back to the airport is around $10.00
Princess has a Cruise Plus program I'm going to check into where you can say a night in Ft. Lauderdale for as little as $65 and transportation and luggage handling are included from the airport to both the ship and hotel. They mention the Marriott North Ft. Lauderdale for $65 pre-cruise only.
We're getting in late Sat night so we just need transportation and a decent room. Hope this helps!
You might want to try priceline.com. We got the Renaissance, 4*, through priceline for $82. It normally goes for around $250. It is right at Port Everglades entrance. If you've never bid on priceline, you need to go to biddingfortravel.com to learn the methods for getting a good price on a hotel you are comfortable with. You can't select your hotel. You just bid on a certain * level in a specified level, then you have to take whatever you get. However, if you stick to a 4* or a 3*, and learn how to work the system, you will get a good hotel. For more tips using priceline, Burbunny (Amber) on the cruise critics board is very hel[pful. Click on hotels from the main menu and scroll down. You will find lots of info there.

We always book on Priceline. Have stayed at Embassy Suites twice now and never bid more than $45 (suite goes for $165 on line).
Check 3 star in the Downtown area on the site to book. All the hotels are good and the price is right! Embassy Suites will pick you up at the airport and bring you to the ship in the morning at no charge.
You can't select the hotel, only bad thing. Last time we were at the Sheridan. Liked Embassy Suites better but for $40 you couldn't beat the price.
Give it a try. We never travel without booking first on Priceline.
