Default Men's formal wear on Diamond Princess

I am scheduled on the Diamond Princess in a couple of weeks for the Inside Passage Cruise and was wondering if a sport coat, tie and khakis would be appropriate for the formal nights, or if a dark suit and tie would be more appropriate. If you recently cruised with Princess, I would appreciate your honest opinion/advice. Thank you.

I was on the Diamond 5/15. You will be fine in a jacket, tie, and khakis. Saw many people dressed this way. Enjoy!

Hi Rufus.. I'd take the dark suit. You'll look better, feel better, and won't have to be concerned with, or feel your under dressed. You may even want to have your picture taken and that would look nicer in a dark suit.. Trust me..Bombero

For Heaven's Sake!
What is all the resistance to Formal Wear? Wear the damn tux! Not one man on any cruise has ever died of cumberbun poisoning.

These boards are wonderful ways to find out about cruising for newcomers and oldtimers, but I don't understand why some folks have to bash you i.e. cumberbun poisoning. Rufus asked what I thought was a very good question and did not deserve the answer he got from the "cumberbun poisoning" guy. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Kajun Nana,

Our hearts go out to you and your partner. Have a nice cruise and don't worry about thoughtless people who have never dealt with cumberbun poisoning or cumberbunitis.....they are so cumbersome!

Obviously Davidkade's cumberbun cut off the circulation to his brain! How dare he ridicule his fellow cruisemates like that! Enjoy your cruise, Rufus!

rufus -

I've been on 69 (yes, 69) of the Princess cruises. Since my Leroy Earl passed several years ago, I enjoy the formal dinner the most (he never was much of a dancer). As long as you are dressed in a suit and looking handsome on the dance floor, I'll smile just the same. I usually wear a sequiny long green dress with a red flower in my hair. I hope we can dance under the Alaskan stars. I'lll be your antidote for any poisons you may have.

Happy Sailing. See you under the stars!

Thank you Missy Mae and Cumberbun Antidote. It is so wonderful that this world is full of such special ladies. And by the way Cumberbun Antidote, I believe I remember seeing you at a hawaiian luau in Kauai a few years ago in your green sequins and red flower. Oh my, it was like Christmas in July.

I hope to run into both you Missy Mae and Cumberbun Antidote on future cruises.... I'll be the one without the cumberbun, but with a big smile on my face from the sight of you lovely ladies!

Rufus: You're a true gentleman........and a charmer! My husband says he will be looking for Annabel, too; as I'm not much of a dancer either! BTW, he wont be wearing a cummerbund.....chose the dark suit. Have a wonderful cruise. Marty
