Was that the closest you could find for the rate you wanted to pay? I would have thought the availability of something closer could still be found. We were able to get one room which accommodated all of us.
The next time you're checking for room rates, go to biddingfortravel.com, and click on hotels and go look at the city you want to stay in. This will show you what people have bid on through priceline.com.
Last year, I was able to bid a hotel at the Ft. Lauderdale airport for $38.00. We got the Sheraton, which had just been remodeled. It was only 5 minutes from the port. I was also able to bid on a rental car (we came in a day early) for $14.00 from Alamo. Can't beat those prices.
I just returned from a cruise that left from Fort Lauderdale.
We are FL residents, so we made the four hour drive there.
We took a perfectly fine, clean, comfortable room at the Whyndham Airport Hotel.
It's an older hotel but it has recently been all redone. It has an out door pool and a nice in house restaurant. It is also very close to the port.
It more than met our needs, for as many of you point out, it is just one night of sleep.
They do not have a free shuttle to the port. They charge eight dollars a person to bring you in their van.
The reason we stayed there was the parking for our car while we were sailing. It is twenty dollars a day to park in the port garage.
We paid $99 for the one night stay AND the whole weeks parking.
Surely , there probably are better deals out there this time of year, but we felt a little better knowing we were leaving our car in a secure garage.
