finally home from Caribbean Princess

Got home last night from the "9 Night" cruise on the Caribbean Princess. It was a great cruise, despite hurricane Frances. Other than some minor complaints about the cruise, overall the cruise was very enjoyable.

Give us some details mulderfx. We are impatiently awaiting our Sept 18 CP cruise. Our first on Princess cruiseline. We've sailed Carnival for the last 3 years. Trying something new & hopefully better!!

Hi,
We're also on the 9/18 cruise and as our time gets closer we're more eager to hear how you cruise was, along with others who report in. I'm especially interested in how the Captain managed the ship. If it was still Capt. Romano. I have great confidence that he did a fine job of keeping you out of any direct danger. Lynne

I can't remember the Capt's name very well, but he did a great job keeping the ship in great weather. we only a couple of cloudy days and no rain. coming back the ship was a bit rocky - you could really feel the pitching & rolling. but that's because we were trailing what was left of the hurricane.

Check to see if the 9-18 sailing is all booked. If so, then there's almost no chance for an upgrade (but being persistent might help). the ship will also be very crowded. there were lines for pursur's desk, excursions, dining reservations. on almost all the days there were plenty of people in the pools. lots of kids & teens.

we were on Carib, deck 10 with a balcony category BA which i think had the largest balcony (along with deck 9)

the ship was huge and took us a couple of days to remember which way is foward & aft while going to the Horizon court. this was one reason we didn't want a cabine on the higher decks - too much traffic. although they did disembark earlier.

hint: ask for purple luggage tags by saying you have an early flight. i don't know if they'd check, but it's worth a shot. Disembarkation started at 8:15, and we were at the airport by 9:45 for a 11:20 flight. I'd felt better if we left the ship earlier.

the food was very good, althought on the 8th & 9th day we stopped asking for 2 servings of shrimp cocktails. At the rate the ship was going, there might've been a food shortage. The service was pretty good considering the ship was at capacity.

If you've with Carnival, then this would be a better experience. I'd imagine Carnival has nightly entertainment. If you like those, then CP's probably would be nice.

My personal (& minor) complaints are:
1. The ship was very crowded with 3000+
2. The ship did not appear "new" and showed signs of wear and tear. more noticable than the Golden Princess (our 1st trip)
3. Repeated shows for entertainment. About half of the shows were re-used on different nights. they could've had more activities
4. A couple of crew members who were a bit confrontational & spoke back to the passengers.

Overall, the cruise was fantastic.& i'd do it all over again, regardless if we had the extra 2 days free

Did they tell you guys anything about the princess cays island ??

Re: finally home from Caribbean Princess

we only overheard the hurricane passed over the island, so it probably won't be a port of call for a while. but that's just the gossip that was on board. only Princess could give us a definite answer.

though with Ivan moving up the Caribbean, i don't think Princess Cays would be ready for any cruises this month....

I was on that cruise as well, had a great time with great weather. Yes I agree the food was a concoction the last 2 days and the entertainment was so-so. the ship is beautiful and we had a great time in the ports despite the fact we had no intention of doing the w. caribbean itinerary. we cruised as slowly as possible the last 2 days so as to avoid the storm. loved the rear adult pool overlooking the wake altho the deck is near the kids club. we had personal choice dining and had no problems getting a table for 2 at 7. I f we wanted to eat earlier we ate at a larger table with other cruisers. my husband attended the art auctions one piece went for $19,000! didn't see much action in the casino, went to the healthclub , never had a problem getting a treadmill. had a facial day 8 which was ok but pricey. our cabin was tiny. had a great cruise all in all.loved the 2 extra days!

we had a table for 4 with the couple we know at the 1st seating. it was a bit early on the days that we went ashore. i didn't realize you can specify the exact time....

i've heard pieces that went for 30k+ at the auction.

the other couple had inside stateroom on Baja (11), and their cabin barely had enough room to move about. we had a balcony on Carib and the extra space was great. i do miss the mini-suites with the tub though. these showers just don't cut it....

Thinking of doing the Caribbean Princess next August 05. Always did Carnival and Disney. I love Disney. Doing VOS this Dec. Relatives of mine want to try the Voyager class because of all the activities, but the price next year is really higher than I want to spend. Does the CP have lots of activities for 10, 14, 17 and 18 year olds? How are the rooms? Are they big enough for 4 people? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Bev

there were lots of pre-teen & teens onboard. a few areas were for kids (for some reason, CP didn't have a video game arcade), but i don't really know what the kids were doing most of the time. at night they mostly hung around socializing. inside room size is about average, although only certain cabins can accomdate 4 people
