Any details from the "9 day" hurricane trip on CP?
Just wondering if anyone has any stories from their "extended cruise" during Hurrican Frances. Were you kept well updated of information about the hurricane and plans for the ship? How was the trip back from wherever you stayed for the extra time...where did you spend your extra two days? How was the weather? Did meals and entertainment repeat on the last two days? What was Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale like? Was there damage? Just curious of all the details of what it was like during this unusual time.
Re: Any details from the "9 day" hurricane trip on
we were well informed about the hurricane, and the delays that we'd have throughout the trip. The capt. informed us on the 6th day at Cozumel that we'd stay overnight at Cozumel, and that we'd not return to Ft. Laud. on Sat as planned.
We left Cozumel at noon the next day, and spent the rest of the trip back at sea, from Friday until Monday early morning.
According the the capt's announcements, we were very far away from Frances, and the weather was gorgeous - you wouldn't think there's a hurricane around, unless you look at the storm clouds with thunder on the horizon. The last two days at sea was relaxing - there wasn't any excursions to plan, no rush at all. just taking our time to do stuff. Activities did dwindle down to game shows, horse racing & bingo (for me at least).
The bad part about the cruise was the entertainment (to be fair, I wouldn't really care for the shows on board any ship unless they do the Producers or something....). The music-dance show, comedy acts were repeated on the 4th day (before the delay annoucement). The funny part is that the comedy/variety acts had "newer" material after annoucements that we might never leave the ship....
The food definitely repeated at least once. it might be more but it was hard to tell with only subtle changes on the menu.
Ft. Lauderdale area seemed ok, with just palm leaves all over the place. There's more damage in the more rural areas, but we didn't see it....
Our waiter mentioned that it was the 1st time in his four years that there was an overnight stay and the 2 extra days to the trip. Some passengers did disembark in Cozumel the next day. The sailing immediately after ours was reduced to 5 days, and was being offered onboard for $399 pp for inside stateroom.
