Questions about Magen's Bay in St. Thomas
We want to spend the day at Magen's Bay while we're in St. Thomas. For those that have been there, is there an admission charge? Are there restrooms, places to eat, etc.? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes there is an admission charge, I believe to be about $6 pp but many taxis have a package deal--transport to and admission into the beach. When you are ready to leave, there are taxis lined up at the exit. There are restrooms and small eating places. I didn't have anything to eat or drink, so don't know for sure what is offered.

Hope this helps. Enjoy

We were there in May, the beach is beautiful and they offer lounge chairs for a fee. Also we just had drinks (soda, lemonade) but they do offer food also. We did a tour from Princess but did notice all kind of taxi service to and from. We enjoyed the time spent there, it is a beautiful place. Voted one of the best beaches to visit I agree. Have a wonderful time and enjoy your cruise.

We were there in Arpil. Don't take the Princess tour, it is silly to pay more, it is 7 dollars for a taxi( 14) then 3 bucks to get in. So for 17 you can go in the morning when it is way less crowded. That's waht we did, we stayed 3 hours or so , then left when the tours showed up and crowded the place up.Be sure to walk along the beach to the far side where the cactus grows.

Next time will try Coki though, there was no snorkling at Magens.

Is Magens worth it? What's the huge deal about it?

Not worth it, it was nice , but I think that it was crowded and the lounge chairs weren't set up, you had to drag it where you wanted it, and the later you come the farther you have to drag it. Plus bring extra money as you must pay a deposit for it( yes you get it back once you drag it back) plus the rental fee.
No snorkling at all.
The snack bar was just that, expensive junk food that you wait in line for.
Bathrooms are often far from where you've dragged your chair.
Next time we will try Coki.Of course we like snorkling so may-be if that doesn't matter to you ,you'll like Magens.

I liked Magen's Bay, but don't plan on going back any time soon. I'll choose Lime Tree Beach or one of the many other small beaches on the island. All are public--just ask a taxi driver. That's how we found Lime Tree Beach a few years ago.

If even the Caribbean's mild waves are too much for you, you'll like the calm water on Magen's Bay. We took advice from crew on the ship to go early in the day before it gets crowded. We caught a taxi back to the port around 2:00 or 2:30. It was definately more crowded when we left, but not too too bad.

I guess if you never plan to make it back to St. Thomas ever again, I'd say go ahead and go and enjoy at least for a little while. If nothing else, you'll be able to say, "Yes, I've been to Magen's Bay"

We have been to USVI twice recently on Princess and went to Magen's Bay first time and then Sapphire Beach at Labor day. I would recommend Sapphire. This is a nice resort that is pretty secluded and not very crowded at all. The taxi is about $8.00 to get there and you can rent lounge chairs all day for $5.00. There is a beach bar, sundry shop and outdoor grill for lunch along with water sport rentals. No wave runners, but kayaks, paddle boats, snorkeling. Scenery just as nice as Magen's, we really enjoyed it.

We are debating between Magen's and Coki. Has anyone been to Coral World at Coki?

First went to Magen's Bay six years ago (no fee entrance fee then), now starting to get commercialisd, go to Trunk, or Cinnamon Bays on St John's, next island a ferry ride away, these are what unspoilt carribbean beaches should be like

Magen's Bay is listed as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. It is. Don't miss it.
