Our group took their first Princess cruise this past May on the Golden, and really enjoyed ourselves, and are now sold on "Princess" after quite a few cruises on other lines.
During this cruise, we ate one night at Sabatini's. Though the food was good, we thought it was just a little "over the top", as there were too many courses, and most of us were full prior to receiving our main entree.
Our next Princess cruise is Dec 12 on the Sun for a 10-day trip through the eastern and southern Caribbean.
I understand that the Sun has just one specialty restaurant (Sterling Steak House). Can anyone provide feedback on this restaurant. What is the price? Is it worth the extra cost? What did you order? How was service compared to the main dining room? How many courses are there? What was the ambiance?
Location: Wisconsin....about 100 miles south of the Frozen Tundra and 70 miles east of Camp Randall
Re: Specialty Dining on Sun
The cost is $15 per person. I think it is worth the extra cost. On both the Dawn and Sea Princess (in Alaska both times), the Sterling was located on one side of the Horizon Court. On some Caribbean cruises it is outside on deck. The ambience is wonderful - tablecloths, candles, attentive service, etc. I feel the steak is very good - I love the blooming onion - the desserts are very good too. There is an appetizer/salad/bread course, main course and dessert. I've ordered a filet mignon one time and a NY strip the other....stick with the filet or rib eye. They will present you with a representative selection of meats and you choose the cut you want..............they will prepare it to your specifications.
I think the price is worth it once a cruise. On my last cruise (Dawn Princess Alaska this past July) , I went up by myself as none of the rest of my group wanted to go that night (Italian night in the dining room) and I had wonderful, attentive service and got to watch humpbacks and killer whales while eating....what more could you ask for?
