Default Diamond Princess

Just got back from the Mexican Rivera today. Had a great time on the Diamond. Great ship, great crew, great food. Had a cabin with an "obstructive view" (view partially block by lifeboats) but I have no complaints. The Diamond is crusing Mexico/Baja a little while longer before going to the Orient. I hightly recommend anyone thinking of crusing Mexico to travel on this ship.

Needlefish:

How much do the lifeboats block the view. We are going to be in 626 & 628 this coming week. The diagrams of deck have a boat right in front of the windows. Will be be able to see much?

Hi we are booked on the diamond for a 16 day Asia trip and was wondering if they have laundry facilities on the ship. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

We were just on the Diamond on the January 15 sailing to Mexico.

There are self-serve laundry rooms on each of the primary passenger decks. We used them for both ironing and a load of laundry. The washers were $1 per load, with a box of soap at $1. The dryers were $1 for 20 minutes. I had to run the clothes through the dryer twice (40 minutes total) to get dry. So it totaled $4 per load.

The iron is free and set on a timer.

Captain Warner is still the captain of the Diamond.
We very much enjoyed him; very personable and pleasant guy.

Yes, the lifeboats block only the bottom portion of your view , but not significantly. The rigging is not exactly great to look at, but being engineering minded I thought was interesting.

2 things to be aware of :

No one walks along the outside catwalks when the ship is moving, BUT crew DOES work on lifeboats and rigging in ports. Do not walk around naked in your cabin at those times (wife found out the hard way). Close the drapes!

Ships engines are a little loud (that is the vibration in noticable) in the back of the ship esp. on the lower decks. If you are a light sleeper consider moving toward the middle or foward. ( We had cabin E515 and did not hear the engines at all).

Hope it helps, Sorry about the delay in responding.

Yes they do. I was on the 8th deck and there was one right down the hall. I'm sure every deck has one.

We are recently back from the February 19th sailing of the Diamond Princess. She is a beautiful ship with a wonderful crew and staff. We had anytime dining and never had a problem-we made reservations for 6:20pm every evening. The wait staff in each of the PC dining rooms were effecient, happy and congenial. The food was good to excellent-don't miss the Osso Bucco in the Vivaldi dining room.

I did use the laundry facilities~One dollar to wash and one to dry but I found I needed two cycles in the dryer. There is a change machine in the laundry rooms but the one on our deck was out of change. Save your quarters.

For anyone interested the Captian on our cruise was Tony Yeomans.

We were all the way aft on Emerald deck and did not notice any untoward movement or vibration.

From our cruise Log...
Day 1 in Los Angeles 62.6F at noon, partly cloudy, moderate breeze
Day 2 at sea 63.5F at noon, partly cloudy, gentle breeze
Day 3 at sea 73.4F at noon, partly cloudy, gentle breeze
Day 4 Puerto Vallarta 80.6F at noon, mostly cloudy, moderate breeze
Day 5 Mazatlan 80.6F at noon, sunny with some cloud, variable breeze
Day 6 Cabo 73.4F at noon, sunny with some cloud, light breeze
Day 7 at sea 64.4F at noon, partly cloudy, fresh breeze

At sea days were chilly on deck with many folks trying to sun but actually huddling under towels. The trick is to get out of the wind! It was too cold to get much use out of the balcony on sea days unless you wore a sweater or light jacket...I did !! I don't know about snorkelling but my guess is that it would have been be pretty chilly. The temperatures for touring in and around town were perfect!
