Default SPENDING MONEY???

Could you guys give me a good estimate on how much spending money we should bring. For on board the cruise (restaraunts,alcohol,entertainment...) and off the cruise (shore excursions, lunch, little shopping,...). Were going on a 7 day western caribbean on the caribbean princess. Any info greatly appreciated!!!

I think the number that works best, and leaves room for unexpected expenses is $100/day/person. Unless you gamble you're likely to come home with money, but will not feel uncomfortable making the little unexpected purchases.

Not sure if you knew, but many things you mention will be charged against the credit card you give them when you check in. For instance, all photos on the ship, all drinks, all ship's shore excursions, and all purchases at stores on the ship.

Similarly, your tips can be charged, except for any tips you give for room service (generally a dollar or two per order). Most stores in all ports will gladly take your credit cards too, as will many non-ship shore excursions. However, many will also give you a discount if you pay in cash (US dollars).

We end up taking not as much cash - maybe $600 to $800 for the whole family.

don't forget to bring some "emergency" cash just in case something unexpected happens (either good or bad)..don't be tempted to spend it and then if all goes well, you'll come home with some money in your pocket that you can use immediately on a deposit for your next cruise (suggest $250 emergency fund)

we go by the $100.00 per person per day guideline. Its more than enough (unless you make a big ticket item purchase like a camera or jewlery) and we usually have some leftover.

We also use the $100/pp per day rule of thumb and have come home with money. A lot depends on whether you're big drinkers, gamblers, shoppers, etc. You can spend a lot of money drinking, gambling and shopping if you want to. Shore excursions can also be a big expense, depending on what you want to do. I try to book and pay for some shore excursions a couple of months before leaving.
