We will be going to Alaska on the Diamond on August 27. This is our first cruise ever so if any of you cruise veterans could impart with what you would consider to be the most important tip I would really appreciate it.
have all your documents with you and on your person before you leave home. Don't put them in your carry-on.
A fanny/hip pack is great for carrying all your daily cruise essentials.
good walking sneakers
Suncreen - you will need it even in Alaska, the glare off the water combined with the sun can cause a really bad sunburn.
A small back pack-tote for souveniors
Make a list of all your basic daily grooming needs, pack travel sized containers. Don't forget things like Rolaids, Tylenol, Bandaids, check them off your list once you pack them.
Small travel sized sewing kit (packed in your checked baggage) for emergency repairs.
good pair of polarized sunglasses to cut the glare
disposable waterproof camera
Great tips!!! I'll add my two cents, don't be alarmed at all the people trying to get on the ship at the same time. That was overwhelming to us on our first cruise!! Remember you don't have to buy all those pictures they take at every port and dinner etc. The first cruise we did, the last one we were on we took better ones!!! If you don't like something you ordered on the menu you can send it back and order something else. Hey two of everything you like you can do that too especially those wonderful desserts. Most important have a wonderful, relaxing time and before you know it you'll be going on your second cruise. I know we are hooked just booked our 8th!!
one of the most important things to remember is that eventhough you are on vacation, don't leave your brain at home. You will be traveling to cities & towns that you are not familiar with, don't become a victim of a pick-pocket or drug dealer, or worse.
