Default HELP insurance ???

Does anyone out there know this answer?? We booked a cruise and the TA got us Princess air and their insurance. If we opt for getting our own air does their insurance still cover us?? My TA says it does not!!! I cannot see spending almost double for airfare and not knowing till the month before where the plane is going. I can book a direct flight for a good deal right now. She also says that we have to purchase transfers because they only come with Princess air. This doesn't make any sense to me. We changed TA's and I'm not dealing well with it at all. HELP!!!

Hi Carol,
I can't see how the insurance would not cover you if you got your own air?? You can also get your own insurance and air. I'm not sure about Princess, but we have an upcoming Carnival cruise and doing our own air and insurance, but purchased the cruiselines transfers. Not sure if this T/A is giving you the correct information..

After calling Princess and getting in touch with my old TA(thanks goodness) we are going to cancel with the other TA and start over!!!!! I may lose a friend but save $$$$. I'm going to get my own air (via the TA) and their insurance. This is the way we always did it and I feel very comfortable doing it. I think the other TA wanted to do the package and not deviate from it. She wasn't too thrilled when I mentioned other ways to do things. So hopefully today this mess will be straightened out and we will have a room # instead of guarantee, (which I didn't like from the beginning). Thank heaven my old TA is on the ball and knows her stuff. I also called Princess and they said I was covered with my own air. So I guess she needs to learn a little more.

you were correct to ditch that TA! she gave you wrong information. I think she was just lazy and didn't want to do any work. A good TA is worth her weight in gold!!

I would recommend buying 3rd party insurance. Cruise line insurance is generally more expensive and less comprehensive.

Get your own air, and your own insurance, and save $$$.

Thanks for your replies!!! I really appreciate your help. Today my old TA (thank heaven) got me a balcony room on the BAJA deck and air + insurance for only $30.00 more than what the old TA priced us for a FF guarantee. I realize what Lisa said above a good TA is worth their weight in gold. I told my TA that I was most gratefull for her expert help. Thanks again everyone!!
