My wife, Mother -inlaw and I will be sailing on the Sapphire 11 Sept. 05.
I have never sailed with princess before. Is it true that you have to pay extra for ice cream and some other stuff. Is thier a Sushi bar on board? How are the cabins? I have sailed on Carnival and the Norway how are the cabins on Sapphire compared to the cabins and service on other cruise lines?.
Hi Steve:
I feel you will be pleased with your cabin as compared to Carnival & NCL.
There is no Sushi bar.
However, Sushi is featured on several daily lunch buffets.
Yes, you do pay extra for ice cream on the pool decks.
But, ice cream is available at no charge daily on the dinner desert menu.
You didn't indicate what type of cabin you have reserved.
Chances are the cabins will be acceptable.
Service is equal to Carnval & NCL.
Less than Celebrity and other luxury cruise lines.
Trust me , you will have a terrific cruise!
We stayed in a mini suite on the Dolphin Deck of the Diamond Princess for our recent Alaskan Cruise. The room was great. I wished there was a curtain or some sort of divider between the two areas but even so.. the room was very nice.. it exceeded our expectations. However .. it did look just like the picture on the Princess Website!
Have a wonderful vacation!
Ladyrace72, we leave on the 13th of august on the Diamond in a mini suite also on the Dolphin deck. Were you able to use the balcony? Any tips or in info an the the trip would be apprciated. Thanks!!
My husband and I are on that same cruise. We are doing the ziplining as well. We did it in Belize and loved it. Its getting closer now. I'm so excited. This is our third cruise this year, so we decided to save some money by booking an oceanview instead of the balcony. I think its going to be pretty cold that week though, so no great lose.
Regarding Pricness... The last time I was on Princess was in January and they were now serving ice cream in the afternoon. There is still the name-brand ice cream you pay for, but there was free ice cream in the Horizon Court for about an hour in the afternoon. This was on the Sun, my sixth Princess cruise, and it was the first time I'd seen that (second time on Sun as well).
The Sapphire has a Personal Choice restaurant with an Asian theme and you may very well be able to get sushi there. There are four Personal Choice restaurants on the ship, as well as the larger dining room for fixed seatings AND the Italian for-fee Sabbatini's. The Personal Choice restaurants were Asian (Pacific Moon), Southwestern (Santa Fe), Italian (Vivaldi, I think) and a steakhouse (Sterling). Fixed seating also featured items from these restaurants each night on a rotating basis. I was on Sapphire last August, so things could have changed since then.
