I read on another board that you can purchase cartons of cigarettes in the shops, but they give them to you after the trip is over. This is different then other cruise lines we've been on before. Do I have to bring enough cigarettes onboard with me to last the week? Can I buy one pack at a time on board?
You can buy them by the pack but they dont always have a great selection. i stopped smoking a few years back but then, on Princess, I was able to buy a carton and take it to my room. If you are doing an Eastern Caribbean cruise, in St. Maarten you can get a carton for 10-12 bucks. Great deal huh.
Where are you finding cigarettes for $3.45? I pay over $5.00. We are going to Alaska, so no luck with caribbean prices. We went there in June and got used to paying $2.00 or less a pack. It was hard coming back to New England pricing.
There was a restriction on CP last year. The other couple we went with was told that buying a carton onboard would be held until after the cruise. The friend didn't pursue wether there was a way around it. I don't remember single packs being sold.
The guy ended up buying 6 cartons from Cuzomel @ $10-15 a carton, and asked us to declare it for him. If you're going to do shopping at a port, might as well look. worse you'd do is end up saving some money.
Vancouver might be a good place to buy smokes (i'm using the cheaper perscriptions logic here) if that's one of the stops to Alaska.
I'm guessing the Virginia area would have $3.45 prices, or even less by the carton. Still $5 is better than $7 in NY.
I used to smoke, so I can't really preach, but i do understand. As long as the smoker is being considerate, i don't mind. otherwise, i'll move
