Default Sapphire-Personal Choice Dining-Heard They Pressure You into

Heard that on Sapphire (& probably other Princess ships) that on Personal Choice Dining, they try to pressure you into choosing the more traditional times of dining - like dining at 6 or 8 & try to discourage reservations between those two times so they can hold a large number of tables open for 8 p.m. diners??? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Didn't experience anything like that when we were on the Diamond. They welcomed you making reservations -- and wanted you to make them for 'just when you want to eat'. Also, if you didn't have reservations and there was a wait, we found they called over to the other restaurants to see if there was a wait there and then offered you that option. If you wanted to eat elsewhere, they were more than happy to secure you seating at the other restaurant. Worked like a charm for us.

Actually if anything, they push people to choose Personal Choice... since they kind of want that to their signature.

From what I've heard on these boards there is usually a waiting list for the traditional dining room. We always wanted to be seated with others in Personal Choice and never had to wait. We met a lot of nice people!

You can make a reservation for Personal Choice, but that kind of defeats the purpose. We ate between 7 and 8 PM and never had to wait.

Thank you Benno for the info. I understand our cruise (10/15) is sold out. Was your ship sold out? I wonder if a full ship makes the difference that people are complaining about.

Lisa...Our's was a full ship. Not sure if it was sold out or not. But it was 'full'. We sail on the Sapphire on the 8th of October, so we'll see how it goes this next time.

Only thing close to that I have ever seen was on the Star Princess 7/4 - 7/14. We did personal choice and chose the lower dining room (can't remember the name) the first night. When we asked about reservations for the next night at 8:30 we were told that we couldn't make them for after 7:30.

There was a large group onboard and they were using that dining room at 8:30 for them. No big deal, we just went to the other one.
