Janet - aft balcony state rooms are very much in demand. You get a larger balcony than you would normally get. Its really neat to sit out there and watch the wake from the ship and too see where you have been.
Not sure if mini-suites qualify for the suite "perks" ask your TA.
I think that "aft portside" just means aft of amidships. On our last cruise with Princess we were in a "forward portside" which was just a few cabins forward from amidships. I could be wrong !
We were in a balcony, not a mini-suite, but I think I've read that mini-suites don't get any special perks. I'm sure you'll get a reply from someone who has had a mini-suite .
Have a great cruise,
"A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour."
To my recollection there are no perks with a mini suite. The mini suites on emerald deck are different than the minis on dolphin, which is one deck above. My preference is emerald because the balconies are covered. Dolphin mini suite balconys are completely open! Just something for you to think about if you get "upgraded" to a dolphin deck mini.
You may love an open balcony, many people do.
