Default Regal Princess South America shore excursion info

I am going on the Regal Princess South America/Cape Horn cruise leaving February 11/05. Does anyone have any shore excursions which they took and would recommend. Any suggestions which you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hope you are going to go into Buenos Aries early! A lovely city, vibrant and alive, make sure you go to see Eva Peron's grave.

Did this itinerary on Celebrity several years ago, you are hitting a few more ports than we did, but here is what liked !

Several of the stops offer penguin colony options - GO what a joy it was !

Ushuaia - took the narrow gauge train thru Tierra del Fuego National Park, wonderful, but allow some time to stoll this charming town also.

Default South America Tours

I was on the Royal Princess last January...and here are some of the tours that I took. I don't know if the Regal is offering the same...so I hope that this helps you a bit.

I took the Beagle Channel Tour when I was in Ushuaia. It was really interesting..the wildlife was amazing...and we had crystal clear weather. I did the early tour so I was able to walk around the town a bit after the tour was over. The ship didn't have a whole day in Ushuaia...so it's important that if you want to see the town, make sure you either take an early tour...or make sure you scoot around town before you take your tour. (also, please make sure you wear A LOT of sunscreen...the ozone layer is thin...and the sun is really, really intense!)

Ditto on the Penguin Tours. I went to Bluff Cove in Port Stanley (don't know if you're going to Port Stanley)...it was great. Any penguin tours shouldn't be missed. It was something to see!

I took a tour in Puerto Montt which was a half day trip (I went in the morning so I would have the afternoon to shop!) I took the Lake Llanquihue, Puerto Varas, and Frutillar trip. It was fantastic. Of course, I shopped in the main marketplace (a short walk from the ship) after I finished the tour. Great place to buy wool items!

In Punta Arenas...I did the city tour...which was again, in the morning, and it was a half day tour. We went to the famous cemetary, went the museum, went to Magellan's momental statue. (My Mom took a picture of me hanging from his foot when I was only 10 years old...and 25 years later, I was able to have another picture taken in front of the same statue...not hanging from his toe, however! That was meaningful to me to see that statue again!) Because I took the half day tour, I was able to shop around town in the afternoon. (Do you see a pattern here? haha!)

I also took the entire day tour from Valparaiso to Santiago which included a trip to a winery (the wine country was amazing...and reminded me of NAPA!), a trip to a working horse ranch..where we had a great lunch, a city tour of Santiago (which included being taken to the famous racetrack, a drive up San Cristobal mountain to see the amazing view, and also continued on with a city tour...then we were taken to a hotel to relax before the bus took us to the airport, where sadly, I had to fly home. It was a fantastic tour if you have a late flight out of Santiago. I highly, highly recommend it. Have a wonderful trip!

We did this cruise a couple of years ago on the NCL Crown. It was rainy in Puerto Montt and we had done the lakes trip on a land tour, but it was raining and I would only do it if it was 'nice,' - you can take a vendor at the dock. We arranged thru PortCompass.com for the penguins in Puerto Madryn, which was the highlight of the tour! We were the only ones there - an hour before the cruise buses got there! Then driver dropped us in town and we walked around. Others saw the penguins in Stanley by taking a taxi. All were better than the ship excursions.
We did do the cruise tour of Montevideo, then we walked back into the town square on our own to see the bazaar, etc.
In Punta Arenas we did our own thing, walking into town and the cemetary. It was a long walk to the cemetary but I wanted to compare it to Eva Peron's place. Into the square and Magellan's statue was not that far. Besides, after all the great food, we needed to walk!
You will definitely enjoy this trip - my favorite cruise so far!
