Am about to purchase cruises for 3 and cruise-tours for 5 to Alaska through a travel agent. Is the Princess Travel Care discounted by the agents or just a pass-through cost from Princess? If we need to cancel can we somehow resell our Cruise and/or Cruise-Tour tickets, or are we really likely to lose all the money if we cancel?
The Princess Travel care is basically a pass through cost but the agent makes a slight commission from selling it. I suggest that you purchase third party insurance for your trip and not going through the cruise line. Cruise line insurance, while better than no insurance at all, protects the cruise line as much as it protects you. Ask your agent for other insurance alternatives. Travel Guard is one that I use.
In most instances you cannot resell your cruise. If you cancel for a non-covered reason: I.E. medical, illness of family member or traveling companion, etc. you will lose the cost of your cruise. That is IF it is inside the cancellation period. This is usually 60 - 90 to 0 days before sailing date. There may be portions of the fare that is returned if you cancel after this time. If you cancel before the cancellation period you will receive a full refund unless your agent charges you a cancellation fee. Don't book with an agent who charges you this fee unless you are getting a great deal and know the agent.
If you have any more questions, just ask.

take Mike's advise, buy your travel insurance direct.
go to www.insuremytrip.com for some additional information
We like TravelGuard. The critical coverages you will need are trip cancellation/interruption, baggage, and medical evacuation(this could cost you thousands without the insurance). Check with your health insurance provider to see what they cover when traveling, sometimes you might have to buy additional medical coverage insurance.
