Default Paying for purchases whilst on shore excursions

Is Mastercard widely accepted when you get off the ship for your excursions in the Caribbean.

Visa, MC and Amex are all accepted. However, it is still a good idea to bring a few bucks with you.

I've never had a problem using a Master Card on the islands.

While credit cards are widely accepted, you might want to notify your credit card company if you intend to make larger purchases (like jewelry) If the cc company notices activity in an area not commonly used by the cardholder and if there are large purchases, they can put a stop on your card. Also be sure that your travel insurance covers identity theft.

Not trying to be alarming, just some things to be aware of. Better safe than sorry.

Cathy,
You brought up a good point. Its also a good idea to let them know (credit card company) that you will be traveling and out of the country if they should see charges on your card.

Some of the stores in St Thomas (I didn't shop at the high end stores), St Kitts (didn't really expect them to), and a couple places in Aruba...I was surperised I didn't have a problem in Grenada at the terminal. I was told that it's very expensive for the stores to accept AX.
