Default price drop after booking!

Just had a question..a friend of mine booked a mediterranean cruise next May on the Star and last week she was looking at the Princess website and saw that the price had dropped by $300 for the category that she booked. She called her TA to see if she could get the reduction from her price and she was told that she wasn't eligible because she had not booked the cruise online! Finally after a little haggling she did get the reduction but that's my question..do you get the price drop difference taken off only by booking online? I don't think I saw that mentioned anywhere..if that's the case..then everyone would be booking that way wouldn't they? Can someone clarify that for me? I want to do it right the next time..lol!!

sounds if your friend was gettng part of what I like to call the "TA shuffle".... that's to dance around it, and find an excuse. I'm move on to a different TA.

If the cruise line lowers your price before final payment is due, you should get the price difference.... unless it doesn't cover the category of cabin you'd booked.

Kuki got it right. + 1

I have had two reductions on the same cruise when Princess dropped the rate twice.

I booked with with an online TA, but delt directly with her. Has no problem getting the price reduced.

I too had two reductions on my last "Mariner" cruise, which I booked aboard another RCI ship, then transferred the booking to my TA. Price dropped twice, and twice I got the reduction. NO PROBLEM.
Have a great cruise, and enjoy the extra cash!

sounds like your friends travel agent is looking out for their own interest (losing commission) instead of your friend, the customers interest.

Personally I'd cancel and book with a more honest travel agency. Instead of the agency getting a smaller piece of the pie, they'd get no pie.

Default Thanks so much for your responses..the strange thing is that

my friend ended up talking to the Princess rep herself when she was in the TA's office and that's what she was told! So..in a sense she got it from the horse's mouth..maybe the Rep needed to get updated too!

Thanks again!

All these postings about getting a new travel agent are completely off base. Princess has a new policy of dropping the prices when you get within the penalty period and the lower price is for NEW booking only. So essentially Princess is screwing their loyal return customers. Don't get me wrong, I still like Princess but from now on I will probably wait until the last minute to book a cruise with them.

if the price reduction was for a promotional on-line fare only or was for a new booking only then you would not be eligible for the reduction, read the fine print on the offer before you go running to your ta asking for the newer fare, or before you consider looking for a new ta. As we have said many times a good TA is worth her/his weight in gold, you never know how valuable they can be until you have a problem. Its not all about the price.

All my price drops were before the "penalty" period.

So I am not off base; you just got picked off of first.

My online TA ALWAYS checks the price when I make final payment - and gives me any reduction. Not all of them will do that.

That's good, but not enough. The prices can drop anytime after you book.

I check the prices myself almost daily. The TA is not going to do that. Princess might have a discount for one or two days, then it is gone.

On both of my price drops, I found the lower rate and told the TA to get it.

That's exactly what I do ! My TA does check prices, but it's unrealistic to expect a TA to check prices for all of her booked customers every day. For our next cruise the price dropped twice. I just called or emailed her and she got the lower price for us.

This generally only applies to "before final payment" prices, although our wonderful TA has gotten us some OBC when prices have fallen after final payment.
