It's Just Not Cruise Ships Folks
Norovirus blamed for Olive Garden outbreak
A contagious stomach virus is likely to blame for sickening about 370 people who ate at an Olive Garden restaurant in Indianapolis last week, a county health official said on Monday.
Stool tests of three Olive Garden employees and one customer were positive for a norovirus, a gastrointestinal illness that causes vomiting and diarrhea, according to Marion County Health Department spokesman John Althardt.
You're so right, Irish ... but the media think it makes good filler! We used to call it stomach flu - now they have a fancy name for it.
I agree. Recently several larger schools in Arkansas were closed because of the "stomach flu". It made a very small "filler" in the newspaper.
If this had happened on a cruise ship it would have been on the second or third page of our paper (or even the first, if it was a "slow" news day), with pictures of the "sick" passengers disembarking!
We have a lot of small towns here with fewer residents than even the smallest mainline cruise ships. It's not news when they close the schools :( , but it would have been if it happened on a cruise ship.
I think they should put the hand wash in all schools, hospitals and stores. The grocery store I go to most often did have the hand wash available for a short time last year, but then it disappeared :( .
