Default Fall Foilage Cruise thru New England and Canada

We are planning to cruise this year in October through New England and Canada. Have cruised previously on RCCL, CCL and HAL; this will be our eighth cruise and first time with Princess. When would be a good time to book? Also, is mid-October a good time to see fall colors in that area? We are looking at the October 13th cruise on Crown Princess. We live in Alabama and we typically do not see great fall foilage colors until early November. Thanks, in advance, for any hints, tips and suggestions

The best time to book is when you are on another Princess cruise si that you will qualify for the onboard booking credit and the other onboad booking benefits.

The foliage tends to peak starting in mid-September around the St. Lawrence River and progress southward, ending along the southern coast of New England in late October. You'll see some foliage that's near its peak on pretty much any of the Canada/New England sailing dates at that time of year. Even in areas that are not at their peaks, there are always some trees that turn early and some trees that turn late that provide some interesting color.

That said, I should tell you that some years are invariabley more or less spectacular than others and there's no reliable way to predict ahead which years will be most impressive. It all depends upon weather conditions thorughout the spring, summer, and fall, with little correlation yeat to year. IOW, the fact that the folliage was very impressive in 2006 does not mean that 2007 will be either a good year or a bad year.

Norm.

We just did this cruise on RCI's Jewel and we sailed October 14th. It was perfect! It only rained in St John, NB and was absolutely clear and beautiful at Peggy's Cove in Halifax. We saw many colors and enjoyed it all. My friend went the year before on October 1st and didn't see any color. Enjoy!

We appreciate the info. You are right, viewing fall foilage is tricky. We went to Asheville, NC in October a few years ago to see the fall colors and the leaves were as green as they were at home (east central Alabama). This year, fall colors were spectacular here at home, so we did not have to go far to enjoy. Sounds like the colors start changing a little earlier than we expected, which opens up other sailing dates for us to consider.
Thanks again.

I cruised Canada New England on the Regal Princess in mid September and loved it. When we went the weather was very beautiful and we did get to see a little bit of the fall foilage.

I also agree that you can get the best cruise prices by booking future cruises while you are on a cruise. Usually they give you good onboard booking benefits with good upgrades and shipboard credits.

1998 Regal Princess
1999 Dawn Princess
2003 Regal Princess
2004 Caribbean Princess
2007 Coral Princess Future Cruise
