Default Crown Princess and Port Logistics

Just booked 10/6/07 cruise on Crown Princess out of New York. How easy or difficult is it to get from the airport to the port terminal? Which airport should we fly into? We were going to go up a day early and see some sights but we did not realize how expensive hotels are until we started looking into them, so we will probably fly up the day of the cruise, but when checking into flights, we find that there are several airports and then we realized that this is a little trickier than any of our other cruises. We may just book air through Princess and be done with it instead of trying to do it ourselves. We did purchase transfers from the airport to the port terminal, which I guess we would not need if we fly up a day early as it appears the transfers are from the airport only - maybe we jumped to soon at those. Did not realize that booking a flight ourselves would be so complicated. And, maybe it just looks complicated? Might be real easy? We would appreciate any assistance, advice, tips, etc.

You will be sailing out of Red Hook. Red Hook is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn.

Fly into JFK. The transfers from JFK to the ship that you have should be good with Princess. Just make sure they know your flight and find out where to met the reps for the bus ride to the ship.

Buying your own airfare is a lot cheaper than going through Princess.

We're doing the same cruise (not the same day though) and we made arrangements to fly into JFK as well. From what I understand it's about $20 or so to get to the dock from the airport by taxi.

Hello cruisers, just joined you a few minutes ago, and I was going thru the decks and came across this Crown Princess thread. We cruised on the Crown November 18th - 25th, 2006, Thanksgiving week, from San Juan, PR.
This was my first Princess cruise and we chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the new ship.(5 months at the time) It is a huge vessel,(3,200 when we sailed) and beautiful inside. You will love the Crown.

Welcome
So glad to hear your comments. These are the same reasons that we have decided to book our next cruise on the Crown Princess. With the exception of a couple of sour notes, we have heard only good things about this ship.

Thanks for the greeting.
The ship is awesome, we enjoyed it. I myself have heard some of the sour notes about the Crown. Chief among them are complaints about the food and service.

Food: The food in the Horizon Court and Cafe Caribe Buffet Restaurants was excellent as was the food in the Dining room. We had the Anytime Dining, of which there are two Anytime Dining Rooms. They are open from 5:30 - 10:00 pm. I'd suggest you make reservations if you plan to dine during the peak times, which usually is early evening. There is one Traditional Dining Room, which has two sittings.

Service: was very good, but not spectacular as I've been led to believe. The one aspect of the embarkation process that Princess does and Carnival dosen't, is escort you to your cabin.

LaGaurdia is the closest airport. Take a cab to the dock. We were on the Crown in October 2006. Our cab to the dock was $35, and the return to the airport was $30. Princess told everyone there were few cabs available upon return. We found this not true, and only waited 10 minutes for one. Have a great cruise. We found the Crown a fantastic ship and enjoyed the trip very much. Jim and Helen

Oh shoot. I thought JFK was the closest and that's where we're flying into. Anyone know how much this is to and from the port? Any difficulties getting cabs to go there?
