Balcony rooms on CP with kids - bed configuations

I really want to book on the Carribean Princess this fall b ut was told that with two adults and two 5 year old twins, that the two adult beds in a stabdard balcony room could not be put together for safety reasons. I do not want to sleep seperately from my husband and on all other cruises, we have been able to put our beds together. Has anyone been able to do this??? Once you are in your room, can you change it yourself maybe or will the room steward change it on you. Please help.
