Shore Excursions

We are going on our first cruise in May on Sea Princess Spanish splendour. (Bit panicky about the Bay of Biscay having read one review of last years)

Would like advice on booking shore excursions. To pre book or not? Though as they are expensive we dont want to make a mistake but had thought to do a trip by coach into Bordeaux as I gather the ship stops at Le Verdon which I think? is some distance. Think La Coruna/St Peter Port we could do ourselves & metro in Bilbao ?

Will be grateful for any help or other info you think useful.

We are on the Sea Princess May 12th to the Mediterranean. Since Princess doesn't charge you to pre-book an excursion you might as well do it online. When I went to pre-book some were already waitlisted. You can always cancel online or on the ship if you decide to do something else. We decided to do private tours in Rome and Naples so I just cancelled the ship's excursions.

I would pre book a tour if you know what you want to do, as they do get booked up fast. If you pre book and then cancel you will be charged for the tour if you do not give an ample cancellation time.

On Princess, I would prebook whatever you are fairly confident that you want to take. This guarantees your place on the excursion, and there's absolutely no "down side" whatsoever. Unlike other lines, Princess charges prebooked excursions to your shipboard account so you don't pay for them until the end of the cruise. Also, you can cancel a prebooked excursion and receive full credit for its price right up to the booking deadline for the respective port of call.

Norm.
